Salt Notes : Native Americans and salt

A factor in the bond between the Zuni and their pueblo, in spite of 61%
unemployment there, in spite of alcoholism, in spite of a rampant drug
culture, is salt.

The Zuni have collected their salt for thousands of years from the sacred
Zuni Salt Lake. It has a soft, powdery feel. In the words of the Zuni, it does
not “roll off your food.”
